Plum Lake bans ATVs from town roads, land By Joe Costanza Special to the News-Review PLUM LAKE – In a first for a Vilas County town, the Plum Lake Town Board voted unanimously last Tuesday to prohibit all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) on all town roads and property.
The action came after residents presented the board with 251 signatures on a petition opposing ATV use in Plum Lake, which includes the business districts of Sayner and Star Lake with a combined population of about 525, within 85 square miles.
Of the petitioners total, 144 are voting residents and 107 are Plum Lake property owners, according to Nancy Atwater of Star Lake, who helped circulate the petition.
The petition stated, “We the undersigned do request the town board of Plum Lake to vote to prohibit ATV operations on all town roads and property of the township of Plum Lake with the exception of those that are street legal vehicles.”
