37th Artarama set Saturday More than 125 talented artists and craftsmen from Wisconsin and eight other states will make their way to Riverview Park in Eagle River for Artarama’s Riverwalk Art Show this Saturday, July 18.
For more than three decades, Artarama has reigned as one of the top art shows in the Midwest because of the excellence of its artists. This year’s show will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Applicants are selected through an intense jurying process, bringing only the very best to the show. From its beginning in 1972, the show has attracted thousands of visitors who purchase treasures to enhance their homes or to give as exclusive gifts.
In its 37th year, Artarama will welcome gifted artisans from as far away as Florida, South Dakota, Colorado and across the Midwest. The huge variety of high-quality artwork will include painting, basket and fiber artistry, jewelry design, photography, carving, an array of distinctive craftwork, plus much more.
Local artists include Betty Christian from Lake Tomahawk, with a unique line of wire jewelry, and Matt Erlandson from Sayner, with photography from his Trampers Trail Images.
Bev and Jim Niehaus of Eagle River have a permit to collect birch bark from down and dead birch trees in the Nicolet National Forest. After collecting, the bark must be stripped, cleaned, soaked, flattened and dried. This process takes four to six weeks. Their paintings are original compositions done in acrylic paint, using the knots, holes and other natural characteristics of the birch as part of the compositions.
