Three Lakes district ranks as most frugal, report shows By Kurt Krueger News-Review Editor Even with the passage of two referendums over a six-year period, the Three Lakes School District is one of the most frugal government entities in the region, a new tax report shows.
The report, based on information compiled by the Wisconsin Taxpayers Alliance, shows the school district has increased its total tax levy by 42.8% in the past 12 years, far less than the increases of other school, town and county government units.
As an example, the levy for the town of Three Lakes rose 71% during the same period, and Oneida County’s levy soared 118% since the same base year in 1997. As for other school districts, the levy at Northland Pines jumped 74.4% and the levy at Phelps rose 64%. The Nicolet Area Technical College levy jumped 104.5%.
The taxation comparison with other units of government is part of the Three Lakes School District’s message to its electors as a vote nears on a referendum to exceed state revenue caps by $1.51 million for three years.
Taxpayers in the towns of Three Lakes, Sugar Camp, Monico, Piehl and parts of Hiles and Stella will go to the polls Tuesday, Feb. 16, for a spring primary election that includes the school district’s referendum.
