RANGE SAFETY PROJECT — The Vilas County Shooting Range north of Eagle River off Highway 45 is nearly ready to open with the new safety features in place. Construction of bullet catchers on the 25-, 50- and 100-yard ranges, along with the pistol range, should be completed by June 1. The $38,600 project was in response to bullets allegedly leaving the range and traveling over students' heads while on a field trip on county land. The boards for targets will be placed 4 fet in front of the 20-foot-high berms that have roofs constructed of used highway guardrail.--Photo By Ken Anderson |
