Richard R. 'Dick' Philips

Richard R. “Dick” Philips of Sarasota, Fla., a former resident of Naperville, Ill., and Land O’ Lakes died Friday, July 2, 2010. He was 83.

Mr. Philips was born Nov. 19, 1926, in Hannibal, Mo., the son of Virgil and Pauline Philips.

Mr. Philips served in the Army Air Corp from 1944 to 1946. He was then employed at United Airlines until 1987. He retired as captain of 727 aircrafts.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty.

Survivors include two sons, Mark of Pompano Beach, Fla., Paul of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; a sister, Gwen Richardson of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 8, at 4 p.m. at Palms Robarts Funeral Home, Sarasota, Fla.
