John Cockrell

John Cockrell of Eagle River died Monday, June 28, 2010, at Howard Young Medical Center in Woodruff. He was 87.

Mr. Cockrell was born January 17, 1923, in Brookfield, Ill., the son of Willis and Anna Cockrell.

Mr. Cockrell served in the U.S. Army in Asia during World War II.

A member of Local 150 and Northwoods Carvers, he served on the board at Kalmar Senior Center.

He was an avid fisherman and golfer.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen; three daughters, Susan Sheldon and Theresa Cockrell, both of Downers Grove, Ill., and Janis (James) Gorski of Libertyville, Ill.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anna Johnston of Wheaton, Ill.

A memorial service was held July 1 at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River.
