Season-long Musky Marathon already includes 54-inch fish The 2010 Vilas County Musky Marathon has started out strong with some nice fish registered, according to Janet Christianson of the Vilas County Tourism & Publicity Department.
“With a muskie release rate of over 91%, we anticipate another great season,” Christianson.
The Musky Marathon is a seasonlong sharing of muskie memories where anglers fishing on Vilas County waters can register a muskie (it must be legal for the waters being fished) and be eligible for prizes, drawing prizes and plaques.
Christianson reminds anglers there is no fee to register a muskie and that the marathon continues through Nov. 30.
“While plaques are awarded at the end of the marathon, there are prizes distributed throughout the marathon to every 10th and 100th registrant in each category — men’s, women’s, youth and guide’s. So anglers are encouraged to register their muskie as soon as possible,” said Christianson.
Standings and pictures are updated weekly on the Vilas County Tourism & Publicity Web site at vilas.org.
