Schedule details finalized for Three Lakes block party The Three Lakes Chamber of Commerce and Welcome Center has announced its schedule of events for the Single Best Town block party set for Tuesday, Aug. 3.
With a fireworks display now planned at dusk, chamber officials are estimating a crowd of 7,500 to 10,000 could be in town for the live performance of country music recording artists Love and Theft, and appearances by ABC/SOAPnet soap stars.
Kraft Singles and Disney ABC are throwing the summer bash after Three Lakes residents and supporters cast more than one-third of the total 20,000-plus votes in the Single Best Town in America contest.
The event will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. in the downtown area, with fireworks in Don Burnside Park at dusk.
While Superior Street between School Street and Gogebic Street will be the block party location, the school has been designated as an emergency location to house partygoers in case of severe weather.
Don Burnside Park will be the main parking area. A shuttle and special parking in the school parking lot will be provided for persons with disabilities. People may take their own lawn chairs for the festivities, including the Love and Theft concert. The band is currently touring with country superstarts Tim McGraw and Lady Antebellum.
The schedule of events for the Single Best Town block party follows:
— 2 to 8 p.m., doors open. All food and beverage vendors are open. All game/prize tents open. Downtown restaurants and food booths being run by various Three Lakes businesses, including but not limited to JPN’s, Deja Brew, Three Lakes nonprofits, etc., will serve food. Kraft will provide grilled cheese sandwiches served near Oneida Village.
— 2 to 8 p.m., beer wagons being staffed by the Three Lakes Park Commission and the Red Suspenders will serve beer at the west end of Superior Street. All partygoers will need to have their identification checked by security and braceleted before purchasing beer. No carry-ins allowed.
— 2 to 6 p.m., local country band Camp Two will perform on the Lions Stage, located at the west end of Superior Street. That stage also will feature chamber raffles, including the Bell Buckle Gift Basket, and a proclamation by Sen. Jim Holperin designating Aug. 3 Three Lakes, Single Best Town Day.
— 4 to 4:30 p.m., soap star Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli) of “General Hospital” will have opening remarks and giveaways on the main stage.
— 4:30 to 5 p.m., main stage questions and answers with ABC talent from “General Hospital,” including Anderson and Brandon Barash (Johnny Zacchara).
— 4 to 6 p.m., autographs from ABC soap stars in tent near the Three Lakes Theater & Art Gallery.
— 5 to 6 p.m., Bradford Anderson, games and giveaways on main stage.
— 6 to 6:30 p.m., main stage questions and answers with ABC talent from “One Life to Live,” including Kassie DePaiva (Blair Cramer), David Gregory (Robert Ford) and Hillary B. Smith (Nora Buchanan).
— 6:30 p.m., Love and Theft concert begins.
— 7:40 p.m., Love and Theft concert ends and a question-and-answer period begins.
— 8 p.m., Kraft event ends, cleanup begins.
