DUST OFF the shelves for another golden fleece award for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the agency asking Wisconsin citizens to record and report all deer they see between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30.
Labeled Operation Deer Watch, the department says it will use the online survey information to augment summer deer observations done by staff members, with special emphasis on the number of does and fawns observed.

Deadline is Aug. 2 for fall turkey tags
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds sportsmen and -women that Monday, Aug. 2, is an important harvest permit application deadline for turkey hunters, trappers and sturgeon spearers.
Applications are due for the fall turkey, Horicon and Collins zones Canada goose, sharp tailed grouse, bobcat, fisher, otter and Upriver Lakes sturgeon spearing seasons.

More than 500 anglers registered for 25th anniversary Musky Open
The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center, along with Musky Clubs Alliance of Wisconsin Inc., will host the 25th annual National Championship Musky Open on 72 area lakes Aug. 20-22.
“More than 1,000 anglers participated in this event in 2009 and we are looking forward to that many again this year,” said chamber events coordinator Kim Emerson.
