Two DOT grants sought for Conover/Phelps trail
Kicking off their push to build an 8.3-mile bicycle and pedestrian trail between Conover and Phelps by 2013, trail planners will be applying for two Department of Transportation (DOT) Transportation Enhancement Grants in early August.
The town boards of Conover and Phelps have each agreed to be the municipal sponsors for the grants, which will be applied for by the Great Wisconsin Headwaters Trail System Foundation — the organization planning the trail.

Three Lakes board rejects panel's push for 5% cuts

The Three Lakes Town Board is opting for zero growth in its 2011 budget instead of a 5% reduction that was recommended by the town’s budget and finance committee, officials decided last Tuesday.
“Personally, I think holding the line on the budget like we did last year and staying at zero growth is the thing to do,” said Town Chairman Don Sidlowski.
In a letter to the board, the committee said its recommendation of a 5% reduction is based on the current economic conditions and their desire to replenish the reserve fund.

Pines keeps SAGE program, but intradistrict transfer end

About 10 elementary students from Land O’ Lakes and up to eight elementary students from St. Germain currently attending Eagle River Elementary School will return to classrooms in their home school as a result of the Northland Pines School Board’s decision to meet the Student Achievement Guarantee in Education (SAGE) program guidelines.
